Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) is a nationally recognized mentoring program empowering elementary school girls to develop the social-emotional and leadership skills necessary to cultivate high ambitions and achieve lifelong success. Founded in Boston in 2004, Strong Women, Strong Girls expanded to Pittsburgh in 2006 and has been putting girls on a path from the classroom to the boardroom, or wherever else they choose to go ever since. The mission of SWSG is to empower girls to imagine a broader future through a curriculum grounded on female role models, delivered by college women mentors, who are themselves mentored by professional women. Over the past decade, SWSG has supported over 3000 mentoring relationships in the Greater Pittsburgh region. By creating a multi-generational community of strength around every girl, SWSG is changing the future of women and girls in the cities in which we work and live.
To honor SWSG, MLJWC will hold its 20th Annual Charity Gala, “Reach For the Star” with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Strong Women, Strong Girls. The event will take place Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Duquesne Power Center Ballroom.
We are extremely excited to work with SWSG in closing the ambition gap by empowering girls in the Pittburgh area to aspire to greatness and exceed their dreams.
