The Philanthropy Committee was formed to focus on the club's giving for greater impact. This fund builds from year to year and establishes a legacy for the club.
The Philanthropy Committee solicits grant proposals from eligible charities and recommends recipients to the board in accordance with our established by-laws.

The MLJWC is proud to award a $1,000 merit based scholarship each year to a Mt. Lebanon High School senior woman.  To be eligible, the applicant must be planning to attend college and submit an application, which will be available at the Mt. Lebanon High School guidance office. Deadlines will be published once confirmed with MLHS.
We were honored to present our 2016 scholarship to Jiawen Zhu. Jiawen has excelled academically and stood out within her community. She founded the Red Door Lunches for the Hungry program that involved the packing and distribution of bagged lunches to those who are homeless in downtown Pittsburgh. She is off to the University of Pennsylvania where she hopes to expand this program in downtown Philadelphia.

We also chose to award a second scholarship in the amount of $500 to Claire Dougherty. Clair is a stellar student and athlete who drew the attention of our committee through her moving essay on her involvement in Relay for Life. She commits herself to organizing the luminaria ceremony, serving as a team captain, and walks enough hours to log over 30 miles each year. She will be attending Dartmouth College in the fall.
